NEWS: New artworks go on display at Tate Liverpool

DLA Piper Series: ConstellationsThis summer, Tate Liverpool is set to unveil a new display of more than 180 artworks featuring pieces by iconic artists, including Sir Peter Blake, Louise Bourgeois, Marcel Duchamp, Nam June Paik, Eduardo Paolozzi, and Grayson Perry. Forming part of the DLA Piper Series: Constellations, the exhibition will be free to enter and will be opening from Monday 3rd August 2015.

Tate Liverpool is home to the national collection of modern and contemporary art in the North of England. DLA Piper have sponsored The DLA Piper Series: Constellations collection at Tate since 2005, and this series will mark a decade of collaboration between the two organisations.

Constellations is a unique display that groups together major works from the Tate collection to encourage the exploration of connections between them. Included in the new displays will be many works that have never been publicly displayed by Tate, revealing the many different narratives that link the artworks together.

A key highlight of the new exhibits will be a display featuring the work of British pop artists each exploring American culture and society of the 1960s, from its consumer culture to the space race with the Soviet Union (USSR). Key artists exhibited in this constellation include Richard Hamilton, Eduardo Paolozzi, and Sir Peter Blake, who audiences will know as the artist who created the colourful design for the Mersey Ferry ‘Snowdrop’.

Continuing in the gallery will be Tate collection displays featuring work by French post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, English artist and sculptor Barbara Hepworth, surrealist artist Man Ray and one of the most influential and prolific artists of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso.

Other themes explored in the new displays include femininity, race, identity and parody through a selection of painting, photography, sculpture, installation and video works dating from 1919 to 2008.

The new DLA Piper Series: Constellations exhibit will be open from Monday 3 August 2015 and will run through to summer 2016.
