Since broadcasting La Traviata back in 2001, the Liceu pioneered the era of ‘opera in cinema’, screening productions from this historic Barcelona venue to hundreds of cinemas in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Now the Liceu, in collaboration with leading international distributor Rising Alternative, will present a new production of Bellini’s Norma, LIVE from Barcelona. Starring soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in the lead role of Norma, the cast will also include Gregory Kunde as Pollione, Raymond Aceto as Oroveso, Ekaterina Gubanova as Adalgisa, Anna Puche as Clotilde and Francisco Vas as Flavio.

The Italian conductor, Renato Palumbo and the Grammy award-nominated opera, theatre and film director, Kevin Newbury (winner of the Irish Times Theatre Award 2010) also head this new production of Bellini’s classic work.

Sung in Italian and played in two acts, it tells the tale of Norma, a high priestess who has broken her vow of chastity by entering into a relationship with the Roman pro-consul Pollione, and who must keep the birth of their two children secret. But when she discovers she has a rival, Norma seeks revenge in a tragic story of jealousy and passion.

The most successful work of the last and greatest composer of bel canto, Bellini’s Norma will be screened live and in HD for one night only at The Light Cinema in New Brighton on Tuesday 17th February 2015 at 7.30pm.
