Set in Liverpool in 2011, Big Society The Musical is a personal drama about the cuts and how they impact on us. Featuring 16 original musical numbers, the film aims to provide a creative response to political policy and open up debate around these issues.

Previously screened last year when it opened the London Labour Film Festival, the film has already received positive reviews praising it for it’s powerful message.

Director Lynne Harwood is excited that the film will be screened in the run-up to the General Election. She says: “It is important as artists and filmmakers that we make our voices heard and where better than the Unity Theatre, which shows some of the most poignant theatre in the city. The log line for the film is ‘When no-one hears you shout – SING.’  We need to be listened to and this film is our way of having a voice.”

With over 350 local people involved in the making of the film, Big Society The Musical is a homegrown spectacle that will be relevant not only to the people of Liverpool, but across the country. Showing for one night only at the Unity Theatre, be sure to check out this impressive piece of cinema while you can. Tickets on sale now.
