WHATS ON: Tickle the Ivories | LightNight Liverpool | 15.05.15

Tickle the IvoriesShown as part of the Liverpool Lift-Off International Film Festival in March this year, short film Tickle the Ivories took away the award for Best Documentary at the closing night of the festival. As winning documentary the short is now due to be screened at festivals across the world, in locations such as Las Vegas, Amsterdam and Tokyo. It will also be screened at the FACT cinema in Liverpool on Friday 15th May 2015 as part of LightNight.

The overall winner out of 600 other global entrants to the festival, director and producer Glenn Hanstock received the award during the closing night of the prestigious Liverpool Lift-Off Festival, which took place at the Plaza Cinema in Crosby.

A fascinating, provocative piece documenting the annual Liverpool street busking event Tickle the Ivories, the film combines live street performances with interviews with the pianists, who are from all walks of life. Delving into the performers’ passion for piano and asking how they began and why music matters to them so much, Tickle the Ivories is a compelling film, beautifully shot in black and white.

A true insight into the lives of these musicians and the power of music, as well as a call to others to get playing, Tickle the Ivories will be screened internationally as part of other Lift-Off events, and is also in consideration for a number of other worldwide film festivals. But for those who are local and who want to see this brilliant film in full, be sure to catch it for it’s exclusive screening at FACT as part of LightNight Liverpool on Friday 15th May 2015.
