NEWS: Vibraphone Star Pascal Schumacher To Open Liverpool International Jazz Festival

Composer and vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher is set to open this year’s Liverpool International Jazz Festival on Thursday 25th February 2016.

The Festival, hosted by Liverpool Hope University and taking place at The Capstone Theatre, is now in its fourth year and includes a selection of free admission concerts by local artists, alongside headline sets from Philip Catherine Quartet (Friday 26th Feb), Courtney Pine & Zoe Rahman (Saturday 27th Feb) and Andy Sheppard’s Hotel Bristol (Sunday 28th Feb).

Winner of the Django D’Or for Young Talent in 2005 and Echo Jazz Instrumentalist of Year in 2012, Pascal Schumacher’s purpose has always been to explore the links that exist between many musical genres. Schumacher has a flair for improvisation and can create an original sound as visionary as it is melodic. As a physical performer, he makes his shows inclusive and interesting to watch.

As a composer he writes not only for duo, trio, quartet and chamber music ensembles, but has also created and produced film, theatre and dance projects. He is also a laureate of no less than four of Europe’s most notable Conservatories from his home town of Luxembourg as well as those in The Hague, Strasbourg and Brussels and now teaches classical percussion and jazz vibraphone in the Luxembourg Conservatoire.
