WHATS ON: Above the Beaten Track | the Bluecoat | 05.09.15

Above the Beaten TrackLiverpool’s grassroots celebration, Above the Beaten Track, returns to the Bluecoat this weekend for its eighth year. Starting from 12pm on Saturday 5th September 2015, the free festival will feature a whole host of musical talent, and much more.

Originally conceived to celebrate the diverse array of songwriters in the city, Above the Beaten Track has since expanded to reflect the wider range of musicians, DJs, artists and makers of Liverpool, to provide a fully immersive cultural experience. The Bluecoat’s historic building will be playing host to many varied aspects of the underground cultural scene, including two stages of live music, poetry, participatory events, and live art.

Acoustic sets from the region’s finest will feature throughout the day from acts such as Paul Dunbar, Paul Wilkes, Moguls, and Chris Woolf, whilst taking it up a notch will be the likes of Spectral Chorus, Seafoam Green, Xander and the Peace Pirates, and Caroline England. This year will also see the debut performance of beat modernists The Blue Soul, the new project of songwriter Nick Ellis.

There will also be some of the finest DJs Liverpool has to offer providing the perfect soundtrack for the eclectic festivities, with fresh faces such as The Chicken Brothers and Danny Fitzgerald, as well as old favourites Monkey and Bugsy, all set to play.

Not only this, but Liverpool Live TV will be making an appearance ourselves with the Red Sofa Sessions, offering Above the Beaten Track musicians and bands the chance to give a 20 minute showcase performance that will be professionally filmed and showcased here on our website.

But music isn’t the only thing on offer at Above the Beaten Track. There will also be plenty of activities throughout the day, including the creative art social experiment Draw the Line, which is part networking and part art therapy, Hobo who will be holding workshops where you’ll learn to make ‘milk ghosts and Humuments’, and much, much more.

With free entry and plenty of other activities going on throughout the day until 10pm, Above the Beaten Track looks like it’s going to bigger and better than ever before.
