Liverpool: Next Stop New YorkSefton Park’s iconic Palm House will come alive on Friday 28th August 2015 for exclusive event Liverpool: Next Stop New York. Taking place as part of the LIMF commission, this free party will be exploring Black American Music and its ties to the city.

Headlined by the hugely popular DJ Greg Wilson and Les Spaine of infamous 70s Liverpool funk and soul club ‘The Timepiece’, Liverpool: Next Stop New York will be looking at how music of Black American origin made its way into Liverpool and the impact it had on the population.

Renowned club DJ and collector Mark Rae (one half of pioneering production duo Rae & Christian) will also be playing, as will Liverpool’s homegrown hip hop crew No Fakin’ DJs.

In addition to the Sefton Park party, Liverpool: Next Stop New York will feature inspiring Q & A’s with key figures from across the decades, including Eddie Amoo of The Chants/The Real Thing, original Cunard Yanks Ritchie Barton & Billy Harrison, and many more.

This will also be accompanied by an exhibition at the View Two Gallery on Mathew Street, with original contributions from contemporary artists including Horace Panter of The Specials, cartoonist Pete McKee, and local hero Mike Badger, as well as archive photography from the Cunard Yanks’ collection, NML, Liverpool Echo archives, and many personal collections.

The Liverpool: Next Stop New York celebrations will kick off at 7.30pm on the day. Be sure to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
