Liverpool’s annual celebration of reggae music and Jamaican heritage returns this June for a whole weekend of cultural appreciation and positivity. Taking place on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th June 2016 in the unique surroundings of Constellations, the Positive Vibration Festival will play host to a plethora of live music, DJs and dub sound systems, as well as a record fair, pop-up stalls, a Reggae Q&A, an international art exhibition and inspiring creative workshops for kids. Kicking off the festival on the evening of Friday 10th June will be a special live performance from legendary dub producer Mad Professor, the long-term collaborator of Lee Scratch Perry. Joining him will be two of his Ariwa Sounds vocalists, KarMelody and Pan Africanist, with further performances on the night from the legendary Trojan Sound System. There will also be support from local DJs and Selectors Radio Exotica, The Walrus Said and Hot Plate.

Then on Saturday 11th June the family-friendly centrepiece of the festival comes into full swing, with a day of arts and crafts workshops hosted by Square Pegs and Rastaquarium to keep young minds active.

Both indoor and outdoor stages will be alive with music on the Saturday, with performances from Cut Capers, Shanty, Backbeat Soundsystem, Rumjig, Solko and Kioko, who’ll each be bringing their unique sounds to the festival.

Completing your musical journey with be some of Liverpool’s best DJs and Selectors, including Funkdub, Danny Fitzgerald, Beaten Tracks and Monkey. And joining this already incredible line-up will be prolific DJ, producer and Ninja Tune stalwart DJ Vadim, who’ll be keeping everyone dancing until the early hours.

This year’s Positive Vibration Festival will see the launch of the Reggae Q&A, an informative and interactive discussion focusing on the impact of reggae on British culture, music and society. The panel will include DJ, musician and Grammy award-winning filmmaker Don Letts, Liverpool born Rastafarian and Urban Griot Levi Tarafi, and one of the most important British club DJs of the 1970s, Les Spaine. Following the Q&A both Don and Les will be spinning some of their favourite records, while Levi will be showcasing his distinctive dub poetry.

The festival will also be playing host to the Jamdown Market, which includes pop-up stalls selling everything from clothing, jewellery and other handmade, original goods, as well as a record fair run by the folks at Jacaranda Records. And there will be plenty of delicious Caribbean cuisine to taste, plus a whole range of plant-based dishes courtesy of ItalFresh.

Running alongside the festival from 6th to 20th June at Constellations will be the International Reggae Poster Contest, which will present 100 reggae-themed posters designed by artists and illustrators from around the world, ultimately showing just how far-reaching reggae’s impact really is.

With an incredible line-up and activities across both days to keep everyone busy, this festival is going to be the best way to celebrate and enjoy all things reggae.
