WHATS ON: Russell Watson to perform at Mersey River Festival – 14 June 2014

russell-watsonRussell Watson, the UK’s best–selling classical artist, will climb aboard the beautiful Tall Ship Mercedes for a unique charity concert on Saturday 14 June 2014 at 2pm. The event will form part of this year’s International Mersey River Festival and the city’s commemoration marking the outbreak of World War One.

Based in Hartley Quay (in the dock next to the Maritime Museum and the Pumphouse) he will perform a selection of popular songs, including his latest charity single “Home Ground” which raises money for The Haig Trust Coming Home charity, the Falklands Veterans Foundation and The Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal.


Russell said: “I’m really thrilled to have been invited to such a prestigious event. I love the Liverpool Docks. This is a real honour and I think it will be a fantastic day for all involved. I’m sure that the people of Liverpool will come out in force to show their support.”

Councillor Wendy Simon, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome the ‘People’s Tenor’ back to Liverpool for the third consecutive year. In previous years he has wowed thousands with his performance as part of Music on the Waterfront, and we’re delighted to welcome him back for this special concert on board the stunning vessel that is Mercedes.

“Not only is Russell guaranteed to entertain the crowds, he is also importantly raising money and awareness of three important charities which really make a positive difference to the lives of others.”

The International Mersey River Festival takes place from Friday 13 – Sunday 15 June and is completely free.
