WHAT’S ON: Roxanne de Bastion | View Two Gallery | 08.04.16

Roxanne de BastionOn Friday 8th April 2016, singer-songwriter Roxanne de Bastion will be bringing her first ever UK headline tour to Mathew Street’s View Two Gallery, where she will be showcasing her exciting new single ‘Wasteland’. TICKETS

Berlin-born, Liverpool-based Roxanne will be accompanied by Stuart Irwin on bass and Jez Wing (Cousin Jac, Echo & the Bunnymen) on keyboards at this intimate gig, with support on the night coming from LIMF Academy 2015 ‘One to Watch’ Eleanor Nelly.

‘Wasteland’ is a song that looks at urban development and the arts, two areas particularly relevant to Liverpool in 2016. She was inspired to write the song when parts of the East Side Gallery, in the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall, were torn down in 2013 in order to gain access to new luxury apartments and hotels, despite heavy protest.

A poignant piece of social commentary that talks about the risk of losing the characteristics that make cities great and that calls out the powers that be to guide urban renewal, this might be a modern day protest song, but it is delivered with a voice as clear as crystal and a sweet melody in stark contrast to its central message.

It is clear that Roxanne de Bastion is a singer-songwriter highly relevant to today, and one that is all the more rewarding for catching live.
