COMING UP: Wirral Festival of Firsts, 7 July 2012

wirral-fest-of-firsts100 North West bands and artists are set to play at Wirral’s Festival of Firsts this summer. The ‘Music Proms’ part of the festival will take place in 30 venues around Hoylake on Saturday 7th July. Confirmed acts include The Fifth Movement, KOF, Pixels Music, Caroline England, Misery Guts and The Mono LPs.

We’ve highlighted some of the must-see acts of the ‘Music Proms’:

KOF – This breakthrough artist is headlining the festival. He has been played on Radio 1 and is on the verge of stardom.

The Fifth Movement – A band with a really different, almost cinematic sound. They have played a string of high profile gigs in Liverpool and beyond, and recently opened the main stage at Chester Rocks.

The Mono LPs – One of Liverpool’s hottest bands right now. They rock audiences wherever they play, with the unusual addition of cello for a rock and roll band.

Pixels Music – The first electronica band at the festival. They have played prestigious venues such as Creamfields, one to watch out for if wanting something alternative.

Caroline England – Caroline needs no introduction to Wirralites, being a mainstay of the local music scene. Her hanuting vocals and powerful melodies send shivers down the spine and she is a pleasure to watch.

Kaya – Kaya hails from Norway, but has fully adapted to life in Liverpool where she has been playing her music, often described as quirky, for some years. Kaya is also the director of Liverpool’s Threshold Festival

Laura & Claire – Laura & Claire are a young female acoustic duo from Widnes who create simple but beautiful guitar melodies.

Misery Guts – Beautifully melodic folk music redolent of James Taylor and Simon and Garfunkel.

The festival will also include 100s of artists exhibiting their work in ‘Art at the Parade’ on 7th July and ‘Art on the Promenade’ on 8th July. 100 poets making their voices heard at the ‘Poetry Proms’ on 8th July. Plus film screenings, craft fairs, plays and a performance from Wirral Community Choir (to raise money for Claire House). So there is plenty going on over this great weekend.
