DON’T SLEEP ON IT 06.03 – 12.03: Chibuku | mUmU | Bugged Out

It’s a big weekend for Merseyside dance fans!! As usual there’s a strong city based selection of club nights but this weekend is all about Bugged Out as they celebrate 20 years by bringing their weekender to Southport. An excited Ashley Manning gives us the low down.

Chibuku is back at the East Village Arts Club on Friday 7th with sets from Bondax, Bicep and Paul Woolford as the highlights. If you can’t get down to Bugged Out, seeing Bicep will definitely lighten your mood. The Irish duo found their feet after creating their blog, ‘feelmybicep’ and several remixes later, they started producing their own tracks which vary from acid to underground house with the occasional disco beat thrown in there. Saturday 8th see’s the mUmU sessions begin at Kitchen Street. It’s an exciting venture in which mUmU claim to be going back to basics or as they put it ‘stripped back the rare vibe’. Mathis Kaden will debut ‘session #001’ and it’s a pretty good DJ to open with. Often residing on the funky/ African percussion side of house music, his sets tend to be upbeat and very bassy with lots of clangs and symbols to add layers to his tracks. See what I mean? TICKETS

The big event this weekend is without doubt Bugged Out’s Southport weekender. I must admit I wasn’t sure when I heard the location was in Pontins (not exactly known for its music scene) but when I saw the line-up I was totally convinced. This three day festival will see hour upon hour of excellent Djing but with all the usual festy extras and not forgetting the hangover friendly food vans dishing out the greasy goods. If you’re lucky enough to have booked a chalet, then a place to crash is never too far away.

The lineup includes the likes of Dusky, Boddika, The 2 Bears, Monki, Eats Everything, Julio Bashmore, Joy Orbison… to name a mere few. It’s their 20th birthday this year so it’s expected to be a big one. There are still a couple of tickets left and this one is definitely worth the dollar. Check out this video below looking back at the last two decades of Bugged Out parties. TICKETS
