Freddie Statue travels around the Region to Promote Empire Queen Show

It will be a case of ‘Freddie ‘cross the Mersey’ next week as the 3-metre tall statue of Queen legend Freddie Mercury will sail along the waterfront in spectacular style on Monday morning (15 August) as part of the countdown to We Will Rock You – the worldwide smash hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton – playing at the city’s Empire Theatre from 6-24 September.

Having taken up a temporary residence in Liverpool ONE over the summer, Freddie will make his official arrival in the city via the Mersey Ferry, courtesy of Merseytravel, at 10.50am on Monday – what better way for a music icon to arrive in Liverpool than via its iconic waterfront?

From there he’ll head to the Southport Flower Show as part of a very special surprise for visitors – all will be revealed next week… Also look out for Freddie at other attractions around the region as he tours the area in the run up to the show opening.

The guitar-thrashing, leather clad musical which is based on over two dozen Queen songs with a script and direction by Ben Elton, has been one of the West End’s biggest attractions since it opened at London’s Dominion Theatre almost nine years ago.

Over the last two years it has drawn the largest Christmas week audiences across the whole of the West End and has become the longest running show ever to play at The Dominion. To date, We Will Rock You has been seen by more than five million people in the UK and by over 12 million worldwide.

The We Will Rock You touring production opens at the Liverpool Empire on 6th September and rocks for a further three weeks in Liverpool with a cast featuring Noel Sullivan, Ian Reddington, Earl Carpenter and Liverpool’s Leon Lopez.
