Martin Smith Quintet to close Capstone Theatre Spring Jazz Series

Jazz trumpeter Martin Smith is one of the busiest musicians on the Merseyside music scene. He brings his accomplished quintet to the Hope University’s Capstone Theatre on Thurs 19th May 2011

A seasoned studio session player, Martin leads the popular Liverpool jazz quartet, Cushfoot, whose first album received national attention from Michael Parkinson and the late Humphrey Littleton, and he is also leader of the Latin style Grapes band.

Martin’s musical influences stretch beyond the boundaries of jazz to embrace dub/reggae, African and Cuban music, salsa, pop and rock. He has played with the Muffin Men, reinterpreting the music of Frank Zappa, has recorded with Space, The Super Furry Animals, The Coral, The Lightening Seeds and The Wizards of Twiddly.

In this very special concert, organised through LiverpoolJazz, Martin’s quartet for this evening’s concert is basically a who’s who of the best jazz instrumentalists from the City.

Presented in the acoustically excellent surroundings of the Capstone Theatre, one could scarcely imagine a better way to conclude the Capstone’s Spring Jazz Series.
