NEWS: Brazilica Festival announces carnival parade route

Organisers of Brazilica, the UK’s largest Samba Carnival event, have announced the route which the glittering carnival parade will take when it passes through the city’s streets this weekend on the evening of Saturday 14th July. This stunning Rio de Janeiro style spectacle is sure to be the undoubted highlight of the three day festival, which will take place across the Liverpool from 13 to 15 July.

100s of performers will take part in this Rio-style carnival weaving its way through the city centre with glittering costumes, floats and irresistible samba. The beautiful, bejewelled samba dancers, Brazilian style drummers and spectacular floats will start their journey through the city at 8pm at Abercrombie Square before leading down Mulberry Street, turning onto Oxford Street, past the Cathedral of Christ the King, then moving down Hope Street. From here, the carnival will dance down Hardman Street, passing St Luke’s bombed out Church before making its way along Bold Street, stomping through Church Street and ending at the Main Stage Festival site at Williamson Square, in the heart of Liverpool city centre, where a number of acts will take to the stage to perform until 11pm.

Simone Reeves, Liverpool Samba School Queen and Lead Dancer at Liverpool Carnival Company said: “I’m so excited to be leading this extravagant entourage of bands, floats, dancers and drummers as we pass by Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks. The Metropolitan Cathedral is the ideal spot for families with young children and Bold Street is always special as people start dancing to the rhythms which makes for a great sight. However my personal favourite is just down Hardman Street, passing the Bombed out church, the atmosphere is just exhilarating, the crowd gives us such a vibe I just want to stay and dance there for a little while longer! At Church Street we invite the crowd to dance with us into Williamson Square. It’s breathtaking to see a beautifully diverse crowd joining us in having a good time and dancing the night away.”

One Samba band is travelling all the way from Singapore, specifically for Brazilica. Sambiesta is one of the few percussion bands in Singapore that plays hot and sexy Brazilian Samba music. Made up of young and energetic music enthusiasts, the band specializes in fusing modern funk, drum and bass and other unique beats with the traditional and ethnic Afro-Brazilian percussion. Sambiesta will take part in the parade and perform on the Williamson Square stage.

Innovative samba & Jazz fusion quartet Tribo Da Pesada, who will also grace the Williamson Square stage, will be joined by a renowned singer all the way from Rio. Fabio Allman, front man for Rio superstars Monobloco, is a showman used to performing all over Brazil to 100,000 people a time.

Brazilica will be a massive 3 day event taking place across Liverpool. The festival is an exciting expansion of Liverpool Carnival Company’s hugely successful carnival parade, which has existed since Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year in 2008 and attracted over 60,000 spectators in 2011. With irresistible rhythms, extravagant costumes, sparkling dancers and colossal floats there is guaranteed to be plenty of glitz and glamour and EVERYONE is invited to join in the celebrations!
