NEWS: Finley Quaye to headline Africa Oyé 2014

MOBO and BRIT award winning singer Finley Quaye will headline this summer’s Africa Oyé festival. Quaye, who rose to fame in the 90’s with his multi-platinum debut album Maverick A Strike and hit singles ‘Even After All’ and ‘Sunday Shining’ will top the bill in Sefton Park on Saturday 21 June.

Now in its 22nd year, the free two day family friendly celebration of African inspired music attracted around 30,000 in 2013. Artistic Director, Paul Duhaney says: “There are some stunning artists coming to perform in Liverpool from Africa and all over the diaspora in 2014. We’ve got more fantastic traders and stalls and of course the best festival audience in the UK.”

Quaye – whose relatives include Afrobeat purveyor Femi Kuti and trip hop star Tricky says: “It’s an honour to be headlining Africa Oyé in Liverpool; Songwriter City as I often refer to it. It’s a privilege for us to be gracing the stage in Sefton Park; a park I often talk about and we are also blessed to be part of such a prestigious event and line up.”

Also joining the line-up are DR Congo’s Jupiter & Okwess International, London based Cuban 9-piece band WARA and HAJAmadagascar & The Groovy People.

This year Africa Oyé will be bigger and better than ever! The family friendly, non camping show features workshops, Oyé Active Zone, DJ tent, world cuisine and Oye Traders Market on top of the sterling main stage line up.
