NEWS: Liverpool ONE to host free music events on both May Bank Holidays

Visitors to Liverpool ONE will be spoilt for choice over both May Bank Holidays when the retail destination hosts free musical performances on Chavasse Park. From 4-6 May L1 will showcase a line-up of artists fresh from appearing at the landmark annual music festival and conference, Sound City. From 26-27 May, Chavasse Park will come alive with the sound of orchestral music with Proms in the Park.

Reading Trees:
Until 2 June
Four 2.6m high wooden Reading Trees have popped up around Liverpool ONE as part of the City’s Literary Festival ‘In Other Words’. Designed by artists from The Kazimier, the trees are stocked with books and the public is invited to read on the seats at the base of the trees. People can also bring books from home to exchange at the trees for another that they haven’t read and can donate books for the trees via the Liverpool ONE Information Centre.

A Tale of ONE City:
Sat 4 May, Sat 11 May and Sat 18 May,
12pm – 4pm
Also as part of the literary festival, take part in A Tale of ONE City. Based on a popular parlour game, visitors can contribute three lines to a story and then the next person will continue the narrative. Each author will only see what the previous person has written and so the story will become more surreal and interesting as it progresses with no one knowing what has been written earlier in the story. The final manuscript will be emailed to participants.

4-6 May:
Highlights of Sound City at Liverpool ONE include MOBO award winning R&B star Esco Williams, rapper and singer/songwriter KOF and The Tea Street Band who have just returned from supporting iconic Manchester rock band The Inspiral Carpets.
Also performing during the three-day music event will be local acts such as Silent Sleep, The Shadow Theatre and Johnny Sands as well as unconventional performances from acts such as 10-piece ukulele band, The Splintered Ukes.
As well as the musical performances, the legendary John Peel World Cup will take place on 4 May on Chavasse Park, bringing together the best of Liverpool Sound City – music and football.

26-27 May:
Forming part of the city-wide commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic, Proms in the Park features performances from bands and orchestras from across the North West. Talented musicians from Sefton, St Helens and Wirral will play music for every taste. From the Harry Potter theme tune to instrumentals from hit musical Les Miserables there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
