NEWS: Nige – Liverpool’s Greatest Secret to perform at Epstein Theatre

LAUGHTERHOUSE Comedy brings a brand new comedy show to Liverpool as part of the 10th annual Liverpool Comedy Festival. Nige, Liverpool’s Greatest Secret plays for one night only at the new Epstein Theatre on 28th September.

“Nige” is the cult comic phenomenon from the award-winning comedian Keith Carter. As well as Nige, Keith has a range of characters including musical theatre enthusiast and wannabe pop star Colin, upper class, Chelsea socialite and entrepreneur Peter, the opinionated, sociopathic charity worker Gerald and the soft spoken Yorkshireman, pigeon fancier, rambler and porn star Alan. All of whom will be featured in his one man show ‘Nige – Liverpool’s Greatest Secret’ which is also be filmed at the Epstein Theatre for a DVD for Christmas. Linking the show together will be resident Laughterhouse MC Neil Fitzmaurice (The Office, Phoenix Nights and Peep Show) providing his own unique style of comedy.

Keith Carter said “I can’t wait to play The Epstein, when it was the Neptune I’d seen some great comics there like Steve Coogan and Bill Bailey so to be actually on the stage is going to be a real buzz. As the show is being recorded for DVD I’m going to be doing a bit of old material for the fans and for people who’ve never seen me, however a good 80 per cent is going to be totally new and I will be showcasing some brand new characters. Expect a few surprises to say the least!”

Nige has become a cult phenomenon amongst the comedy savvy, not only Liverpool but across the UK, loved by audiences and fellow comics alike. Keith has the ability to improvise and ad-lib around his characters – with no fixed script – every gig is different. Keith strives to make Nige and his other characters as real as possible, this is the modern take on character comedy, and where Keith creates a being that the audience can accept and enjoy.

His dedication to the characterization is so intense that many of the audience don’t even recognize he is playing all the characters, each having its own comedic style; ranging from the confrontational to the conversational, the loveable to the downright frightening, and the happy-go-lucky to the intellectually intense. Music plays a great influence in Keith’s approach to comedy – and if comedy is supposedly the new rock n’ roll, then Keith is psychedelic indie lounge-core with a dash of rockabilly funk and a sprinkling of pub glam rock – putting it simply that is.
