Ray Quinn & Carina Gillespie to Star in Grease at the Liverpool Empire

Scouse Is The Word! as Liverpool’s own Ray Quinn and Carina Gillespie will no doubt leave Liverpool audiences hopelessly devoted to their charms when Grease rocks into the Empire Theatre for 2 weeks only from 8-19 November 2011 – its first visit in over 5 years following an electrifyin’ 4 year run in London’s West End.

Ray Quinn began his career in the hugely popular Channel 4 soap Brookside in the role of ‘Anthony Murray’ for which he won several TV awards. Ray is also well known for his appearance as a finalist on The X-Factor (2006) in which he was placed second and went on to release his platinum selling debut album ‘Doing It My Way’. He completed his own sell-out tour of the UK in 2007 along with performing at arenas nationwide on the X-Factor tour. Ray won the nation’s hearts all over again after winning ITV1’s Dancing on Ice and has been on tour twice with the hit show in the UK. He made his West End theatre debut in Grease as ‘Doody’ (2008) and later went on to play the lead role of ‘Danny’ to sell-out audiences at the Piccadilly Theatre. Ray recently appeared on ITV’s new primetime show Sing If You Can and is currently starring as ‘Billy’ in the West End production of Dirty Dancing.

“I am so excited to be coming back to my home town of Liverpool to play the lead role of Danny in Grease. Last time I played the Empire was for 3 sell out nights on my solo tour and nothing quite beats a home crowd!”

Carina Gillespie trained at the Liverpool Theatre School and made her professional stage debut as ‘Maria Elena’ in the hugely successful musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story.  Her further theatre credits include the role of ‘Linda’ in Bloodbath – The Musical, and ‘Princess Tamara’ in Jack in the Beanstalk in Ipswich. Carina’s other credits include performing as a regular session singer for ‘Love to Infinity Records’, releasing a debut single with the new pop-dance band Ezcapade (2010), appearing as a support act for ‘Basshunter’ (UK tour 2010) and as a dancer in numerous music videos. Carina recently made her West End debut as ‘Sandy’ in Grease at the Piccadilly Theatre and is currently reprising the role for the tour.

Voted the “No 1 Greatest Musical” in a Channel 4 poll, Grease has proved that a musical love story, bursting with denim, cheerleaders, slick hairstyles, rock ’n ’roll, 1950’s pop culture and an irresistible mix of teenage angst and young romance is timeless and universal. It’s the original high-school musical featuring all the unforgettable songs from the hit movie including ‘You’re The One That I Want’, ‘Grease Is The Word’, ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’, ‘Sandy’, ‘Greased Lightnin’’ and many more.
