REVIEW: Revolution, St Peter’s Square

I had the pleasure of dining at Revolution in St Peter’s Square recently to sample their new menus. Food at Revolution? I know! I have always enjoyed the Revolution bars as a lively place to go to on a Friday or Saturday, it’s a fun place and I have had many an entertaining night there. I was really looking forward to seeing what the food menu had to offer. Tanith Facey reviews…

If you haven’t been yourself, there are four Revolution bars in Liverpool for you to try, Albert Dock, Cavern Quarter, Wood Street (drinks only) and St Peter’s Square. I tried out St Peter’s Square but the menus are the same in the other restaurant venues. So what did I get to sample? We were handed the cocktail menu straight away and me and my guest thought it would be rude not to! We had a Basil Grande and a Rum Bongo to start, but they also serve the good old favourites like a Cosmo or a Long Island Iced Tea. Give the others a go though because we loved them!

To start we chose a Revolution Mezze, Marinated goat’s cheese with sun blushed tomatoes, humus, olives, falafel with tzatziki, olive oil and balsamic pearls, served with warm flatbread. There was quite a lot of it and if you fancied a light lunch during the day, this would be just the ticket. It was a good job we had saved ourselves all day for the feast!

We had another couple of cocktails, a lovely Singapore Sling and a Peanut Butter Martini, awesome, but the peanut butter is like a scrummy dessert itself so I recommend leaving one of those until the end of your meal.

For our mains, I had the three small plates option which included crispy goats cheese bon bons, katsu king prawns and sweet potato wedges and my friend had the pulled pork burrito. All of my plates were absolutely delicious, all of them! Good portion sizes, lots of flavor and all served on rustic wooden boards. When I go back, which I definitely will, I am going to try the skinny burger! It’s a homemade burger, without the bread, with vodka salsa.

Dessert time! Could we manage it? Of course! But we did the usual girly thing and shared one, Salted Caramel Chocolate Fondue. Oh my days! So much perfection in one sitting: strawberries, bananas, marshmallows and sweet dough sticks to dip into the lovely fondue. Again lots of it to share and perfect finish to a lovely meal.

We had a glass of Prosecco each, as you do, I had the pink and my friend the white. Being fans of a bit of fizz, we can happily report that both were lovely! If that wasn’t enough, we had to (I repeat had to!) try the vodka shots. My experience of shots are the usual harsh ones you are forced into on party nights but these were lovely. One tasted like cake, another like ice cream and another like fruit.

I would happily recommend Revolution for food. Surroundings are lovely, service was prompt and all the staff were really friendly and helpful. I look forward to seeing them all again very soon!
