NEWS: Liverpool entrepreneur one of two thousand new businesses supported by Blue Orchid scheme

Liverpool entrepreneur, Chris Carbery, has joined in the celebrations with Blue Orchid, as the start-up support specialist announced it has helped launch its 2000th new business. Chris’ business, Rent Referee is one of the 2,000 businesses that Blue Orchid has help set up under the business support programmes it operates across the region.

To mark this milestone and help support businesses further, Blue Orchid has launched a new way for start-ups to access free expert advice on fine-tuning their business plans, together with practical support and training to ensure their new ventures survive and thrive.

The support and advice can be accessed by budding entrepreneurs across Merseyside through a new service called Start Up Now.

In Merseyside Blue Orchid offers one to one business advice through a network of professional advisors, supported by an extensive programme of workshops across a wide range of themes. The service is centred in local venues with business advisors based in the community to offer a complete package of support to help individuals start up their business.

The scheme it operates in Merseyside is funded by the NEA (New Enterprise Allowance) programme and is completely free to people meeting the eligibility criteria.

“At present, there is a real need to create more sustainable employment opportunities, so it’s fantastic that we‘ve been able to help so many people like Chris to grow and transform their ideas into viable, prosperous businesses,” said Heather Hayes, managing director at Blue Orchid.

“The programme gives people the chance to obtain high-quality training and tailored business advice, which provides them with the expertise they need to set up or maintain a successful business. By sharing best practice ideas and investing in young companies in this way, we aim to boost the local economy and create more jobs for people in the region.”

As part of the offering, clients receive one-to-one professional advice and guidance from a qualified business advisor, business planning and financial advice, marketing and sales support, networking opportunities, as well as access to a range of specialised workshops and regular training sessions to help with all aspects of running a business.

Chris explains how this support played a vital role in helping Rent Referee to succeed: “My Blue Orchid business advisor, Elaine Courtney, was a great support when setting up the brand. I had the website in place already, but her help in getting a decent business plan in place and advice on the legal structure of the business, was invaluable to me as a new business owner. The training workshops were a vital help too.

“I’m only a few months into trading, but already there has been a lot of traffic to the site. I’ve even been approached by the BBC to feature in an upcoming documentary, which will be great for raising the business profile. Having ready-access to ongoing support from my advisor is a great reassurance too.”
